You can’t expect your house to be clean with a dirty mop and a filthy broom. It will spread dirt and germs all the more. That is why, it is important to keep your cleaning equipment clean and do it regularly to ensure hygiene, sanitation and maximum cleanliness. When you start cleaning a house, you realise there are quite a number of cleaning supplies that are needed for the job. If your cleaning tool smells foul, it should be immediately sanitised and cleaned. Here are some easy ways to clean cleaning equipment.
Easy Ways to Keep Your Dusters Clean
Dusters accumulate most of the dirt and grime that can cause allergies. For an allergy-proof home, you must ensure that the dusters are absolutely free of any dust particles. You need to clean dusters after every cleaning chore. There are a few steps involved in the process:
- First remove any loose dust particles that are usually found on the surface of the duster. All you have to do is cover your nose and mouth with a mask or a piece of cloth and give the duster a firm tap against something hard to release all the loose dust particles in one go.
- In the next step, you must remove any grime and embedded dust particles from the duster for maximum cleanliness. For this, soak the duster in warm water with detergent. Let it remain there for about half an hour. Rub and wash the duster and then squeeze it multiple times until you find no soapy residue or dirty water behind. Hang the cloth dry.
- If you have a microfiber cloth, then wash it in water, but avoid using hard cleaning agents and fabric softeners as it can harm its dust cleaning ability
Best Ways to Sanitise a Cleaning Bucket
Don’t start cleaning your house with a dirty bucket. In order to sanitise a cleaning bucket, you would need concentrated bleach and water. But first, make sure the bucket is thoroughly washed with a detergent and some water. Once your cleaning bucket is washed, fill the bucket with water and add some chlorine bleach. Let the solution remain in the bucket for a few minutes. Dispose of the contents. Please note: Never mix bleach with any other cleaning agent as the fumes can be hazardous.
How to Keep Mops Clean
Mop heads are usually made of microfibers, but some are also made of fabric or sponge. You must clean each type thoroughly after every single use. Use heavy detergent and bleach to keep the mop heads clean. A dirty mop will only contribute in spreading more dirt and grime on the floor. Take a large bucket and soak the mop in detergent and then rinse it well. If the microfiber mop head is white, then dip it in bleach solution to help it disinfect completely.
If you have a fabric mop head, then repeat the same process as mentioned above. However, let the fabric mop head soak in the detergent solution for half an hour. Add some bleach later for a sanitised mop. For sponge mop heads, repeat the same process but don’t soak it in the detergent solution.
Best Ways to Sanitise a Broom
A broom is made of broom straw or microfibers, whatever variety of broom you have, make sure you keep it regularly cleaned and sanitised. To clean trapped dirt in the broom, run the bristles of the broom over the edge of a step to whisk away any dirt. You can also use a sharp object and clean the broom thoroughly. For deep cleaning, soak the broom in a bucket of water and detergent and then rinse with cold water. Always hang the broom upside down to let it drip dry.
Please note not to hang the broom upside down with the bristles touching the floor as it can spoil the shape of the broom. Always keep the broom facing upward to maintain proper shape. If your broom has lost its natural shape, then wet the bristles and using rubber bands straighten the bristles and tie them to restore its shape.
