Traffic Alert SMS
The capital city of Islamabad is also one of the busiest cities in the country, especially during rush hours. Due to a number of reasons, the traffic on the busiest roads may cause congestion and travellers may need to take an alternate route. While the traffic police staff is always on-site to manage the traffic, citizens can also use one of the departments’ services to get an update of the current traffic scenario on different roads.
To avoid any road blockages, diversions or traffic congestion, travellers can use the SMS Alert System launched by Islamabad Traffic Police and get alerts about road situations in different parts of the city in just a few seconds. Send a text SMS ‘update’ at 0331-0487487 free of cost. More than 1500 travellers on average daily use the service and benefit from it.
E-police desk
For smart policing in Islamabad and to facilitate the residents of the city in a better way, Islamabad Police has set up a state-of-the-art automated police desk in the F-6 sector. The e-police desk does not require any police staff to operate rather the complainants can use the facility themselves.
There are two ways to register the complaint using the e-police desk. The complainant can either type or use the telephone that will automatically connect the person to the control room of the police. If the complainant decides to type themselves, a copy of the complaint will be sent to the office of DIG operations and another copy to the concerned police station. Moreover, the efficiency of the process can be gauged by the fact that within 5 minutes of typing and submitting the complaint, the staff at the backend of the system will call to get in touch with the complainant for further information and coordination.
At present, there is only one such setup but after assessing the response of the public and its usability among the public, more booths will also be established in different parts of the city.
The law enforcing departments in the city are continuously incorporating technology in their daily operations and services. This way they can ensure that the services provided to the public are efficient and effective. Under the safe city project, the e-challan system in Islamabad is another initiative taken by the traffic police to enforce traffic rules and punish those who don abide by them.
