A home prone to clutter and disorganisation can be stressful. You will be amazed how much serenity can be created with a well-organised interior. Every room in your house can be arranged neatly so your daily life can be made simpler.
Whether it is your kitchen that is fraught with activity or your bedroom that demands comfort, a clutter-free environment can make getting day-to-day tasks less exhausting, save time, and keep your mind relaxed.
If you look around your home, you will find many items that can be discarded. For a cleaner and sleeker looking interior, it is almost therapeutic to learn to let go of such clutter. Next, you can be smart about how you arrange what is left. A lot of extra space can be created around the house if you can come up with more practical storage ideas.
Here are a few smart and practical ideas for storage around different rooms of your house:
Kitchen
The more disorganised your kitchen is, the harder you will find working there. With a few hacks, you can get your kitchen in order.
- In a kitchen pantry, install thin shelves between the wide-spaced ones to create more space
- Buy dividers to arrange the cutlery neatly in drawers
- Nail hooks inside the cabinet doors to hang small utensils or pans
- Mount magazine racks to keep boxes of foil and plastic wraps
- Inside a cabinet over the sink, install a dish drying rack for convenience
Living room
The living room should look inviting and cosy. However, arranging throws and pillows all over the place is not the way to do so.
- Add futons or a centre table that comes with storage
- Mount the television on the wall
- Use hubs for hiding the cords of multiple electronic devices
- Install shelving around the television to smartly store the DVDs, home system devices, and even books
- A small chest of drawers or rack of shelves can also help arrange a variety of home items
Bedroom
A mismanaged bedroom can disrupt the aura of comfort that you long for after a long day at work. Fortunately, you can be practical about how you decorate the space.
- Buy a platform bed that has retractable drawers underneath. These can be made to order as well
- Buy boxes or containers to keep things neatly in the cupboards
- A shoe rack can be mounted, placed within drawers, or be free-standing to display your commonly worn shoes in an organised manner
- Eliminate the clutter of cords by attaching clip binders to side and study tables
- Use the back of bedroom doors to install hooks
Bathroom
A well-arranged bathroom looks cleaner and fresher, which is what you definitely need from this particular space.
- Add drawers and cupboards to the bathroom vanity to store towels, bathrobes, etc.
- Build a cupboard behind the bathroom mirror to store toiletries
- Use the space behind the door to hang laundry
- With a larger bathroom, a mounted or in-wall shelf can be used for storage of tissue rolls, towels, toiletries, etc.
- Use wicker baskets to place under the sink or another unused space to store bathroom items
Store room
If you are lucky enough to already have a storage room built with your house, then use it wisely. Add shelves along at least two sides of the room. Additionally, use cardboard cartons and square plastic containers to stack along the other sides. Do leave room for moving around and accessing the stored items. For a new house, see if you can get a storage room in the building plan approved by your housing society.
