In a bid to acknowledge the services of overseas Pakistanis and their contribution to the national economy, Prime Minister Imran Khan recently unveiled two new schemes for Roshan Digital Account holders. The aptly titled Roshan Apni Car and Roshan Samaji Khidmat will facilitate non-resident Pakistanis to purchase locally assembled vehicles and pay donations digitally, respectively.
These schemes for non-resident Pakistanis were introduced during an event held in Islamabad to celebrate the success of Roshan Digital Accounts, which recently surpassed a major milestone of $1 billion.
Since we have already covered the features, eligibility criteria and requirements for the Roshan Apni Car scheme in a comprehensive guide, let’s talk about Roshan Samaaji Khidmat and how it enables overseas Pakistan to contribute to the different charities and poverty alleviation programmes back home.
Roshan Samaaji Khidmat Programme for Roshan Digital Account Holders
Launched in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan, Roshan Samaaji Khidmat will enable Roshan Digital Account holders to make their zakat and donation payments to approved organizations in Pakistan through a secure digital channel.
“Roshan Samaaji Khidmat is a one-stop payment platform to enable Overseas Pakistanis to make donations to leading charities, hospitals and educational institutes in Pakistan, as well as to meet their Zakat obligations,” the State Bank of Pakistan said in its press release.
“In addition to these private sector organizations, SBP also worked closely with Special Assistant of the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Dr Sania Nishtar, and her team to integrate ‘Ehsaas’, the government’s flagship poverty alleviation program, with the Roshan Samaaji Khidmat portal,” it further stated. “As a result, private participation in one of the world’s most acclaimed poverty alleviation programs is being made possible for the first time. Through Roshan Samaaji Khidmat, Overseas Pakistanis are being given the opportunity to make direct contributions to the program. In so doing, they would be providing vital support to the government’s efforts to lift millions of their fellow Pakistanis out of poverty.”
Earlier, Senator Faisal Javed Khan had also taken to social media to share the details about the Roshan Samaaji Khidmat initiative and how it will make it easier for non-resident Pakistanis with Roshan Digital Accounts to make donations by logging into their bank’s portal, selecting the charity and entering the amount they want to contribute.
“Under #RoshanSamaajiKhidmat RDA holders can give donations, Zakat etc. very conveniently, through the bank’s portal by selecting the charity and paying the amount. For the first time, they will also be able to make donations directly to the government’s landmark Ehsaas program,” PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan had tweeted.
The donations will be made in Pakistani currency.
