Hyderabad is the second largest city of the Sindh province. In terms of infrastructure and real estate, it has grown by leaps and bounds over the past decade. That said, the city of Hyderabad is still developing and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that much of its infrastructural transformation is inspired by its neighbour, Pakistan’s largest metropolis, Karachi. Just like the City of Lights, Hyderabad also tries to make sure concrete buildings don’t completely obscure green spaces. You’ll easily find gardens and parks in Hyderabad of all shapes and sizes. In this blog, we will take you on a virtual tour of a famous tourist attraction in Hyderabad, named Rani Bagh, which was established in the 19th century.
Let’s begin!
Rani Bagh Overview
Rani Bagh is located in one of the most popular neighbourhoods of Hyderabad, Qasimabad. Established in 1861 as a botanical garden, it was previously known as Das Garden but, later, the name was changed to Rani Bagh (‘rani’ means queen and ‘bagh’ means garden) after Queen Victoria.
It was established as a botanical garden by the then agro-horticulture society, on a total area of 53 acres. Later, animals and birds were also moved in and a zoo was founded here. Today, it is one of the biggest attractions and a recreational park for the people of Hyderabad. The garden is divided into different parts and each facility is well built and well planned to ensure people don’t face any sort of inconvenience during their visit. Rani Bagh comprises:
- Eidgah (open space to offer annual Eid prayers)
- Rani Bagh Zoo
- Rani Bagh Fun Land
- Abbas Bhai Park
- Jogging track
- Food kiosks
About Rani Bagh Zoo
As mentioned earlier, Rani Bagh was initially just a botanical garden but later birds and animals were also introduced here. This particular place is crowded on the weekends and during the holiday season. At present, there are 21 species of mammals, 10 species of reptiles and 41 species of birds. Other than these, Rani Bagh also maintains 3177 trees of 227 different species.
Activities For Children
There is a fun land on the premises of Rani Bagh Garden for children. There are multiple rides such as a ferris wheel, train rides, and a pirate ship among others. Other than that, there is an open-air theatre where families and children can enjoy live theatre. It’s the perfect place for families to enjoy a picnic on a weekend.
