More About PTA Device Verification System
The telecommunication network in Pakistan is growing at a fast pace. According to a recently published report, the country now has more than 162 million mobile and wireless network subscribers. For the sustainability of operations at such an enormous scale, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken many noteworthy initiatives in recent years to protect users from unsolicited digital communication.
In fact, PTA now allows users to block unwanted calls and messages as well as telecommunication marketing on their phones. The process of blocking/unblocking obnoxious telecommunication on your mobile is very easy and has been elaborated below in a step-by-step manner. Take a look!
How to Block Unwanted Calls and SMS on Your Mobile Device
Calls and messages based on telecommunication marketing can be very disturbing at times. PTA now allows you to easily get them blocked. Here’s how:
How to Block Telecommunication Marketing
- To get rid of telecommunication marketing, all you have to do is to register your number or subscriber’s identity on the Do Not Call Register (DCNR) portal.
- To do so, simply open the messaging app on your mobile device.
- Type “reg” and send it to 3627
- It will allow you to stop receiving all types of telecommunication marketing calls and SMS on your mobile phone.
- If, for some reason, you still get such unwanted calls and messages, contact your concerned telecommunication company.
- If you want to resume receiving telecommunication marketing SMS and calls on your phone, just type “unreg” and send it again to 3627.
How to Block Spamming and Unsolicited Calls/SMS
To keep yourself protected from spamming and unsolicited communication, here’s what you need to do:
- Open the messaging app on your mobile device
- Type in the spammer’s contact number as well as the message you may have received after giving space and send it to 9000.
- PKR 10 per message will be deducted as SMS charges, which is to discourage users from misusing this facility.
How to Block Obnoxious Communication
The process of blocking obnoxious messages and calls may differ for subscribers of different telecommunication operators. For example, Jazz, Telenor, and Ufone subscribers have to dial *420# to block unwanted calls and messages. On the other hand, Zong users can simply call ‘420’ for such a purpose.
More About PTA Device Verification System
To effectively stop the trade of stolen and smuggled mobile devices in the country, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has also recently launched a digitally-powered PTA Device Verification System (DVS).
It allows users to verify their mobile devices online to check whether they are compliant with PTA or not. The device’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), which is a 15 digit number, is used by this tech-driven verification system. The IMEI number is either mentioned on the packaging or on the back of a mobile device, sometimes beneath the battery if the phone has a removable back cover.
You can also fetch your mobile’s IMEI number by dialing *#06#. Also, if you buy an imported or a used mobile phone, it’s essential for you to get your device verified and registered so it wouldn’t be blocked from receiving cellular reception by PTA.
PTA allows you to verify your mobile devices in three different ways. You can either visit the official website for device verification, download the app from your Android and iOS devices, or through their SMS service.
