About Peshawar BRT
As the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, Peshawar is home to a population of around 4,269,079 residents as per the 2017 Population Census. Thus, the need for a central public transport system was badly felt by the people and the federal and provincial government are hoping that the Peshawar BRT project will be the solution they were searching for. Built in different phases, the development has taken nearly three years and is nearing completion.
Peshawar BRT will have 31 stations along 26 kilometres of the Grand Trunk Road, also known as the N-5 Motorway, taking passengers east to west across town, with an elaborate network of feeder buses making it easy to reach all part of Peshawar with ease. The project is being financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and is being built by TransPeshawar, which is an urban mobility company, owned by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Commonly becoming known by its brand name “Zu Peshawar”, where ‘Zu’ is a word from the local Pushto language meaning ‘Let’s Go’, Peshawar BRT is soon to be launched in all its glory.
