Update (Oct 31 2022):
Mobile App to Be Launched for Peoples Bus Service
In a recent development, the Ministry of Transport and Mass Transit in Sindh has announced that a mobile app for Peoples Bus Service is in the works. Moreover, to synchronise the bus operations with the upcoming app, they are also planning to install the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in the entire bus network.
Integrating the cutting-edge GPS system with advanced technology, the app will allow passengers to track Peoples Buses in real time. Also, the ITS system for the bus service will feature CCTV cameras, live tracking, and monitoring of the fleet.
The plans to launch new bus routes and set up a command and control room for Peoples Bus Service operations were discussed in a high-level meeting between the transport minister and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
Despite being a megalopolis, the city of Karachi has borne the brunt of the absence of a proper public transportation system for decades. Throughout its history, many projects were introduced and failed due to the negligence of the concerned authorities and the mass transit needs of the city have long been fulfilled by the age-old wagons, mini-buses and full-sized buses owned by private transporters.
However, the launch of the Green Line BRT and Orange Line project by the federal and provincial governments this year turned out to be a major breakthrough, after which the city’s transport infrastructure has constantly been upgraded. The inauguration of Red Line Metrobus systems is also expected soon. Furthermore, besides these large-scale BRT projects, the provincial government has recently introduced the People’s Bus Service in two major cities of Sindh: Karachi and Larkana.
For Karachiites, Peoples Bus Service is no less than a blessing. Amid rising fuel prices, it is a very sustainable alternative. The transportation project offers air-conditioned, safe and comfortable commutes to the people in the megacity at an affordable price.
Now, let’s learn more about the route, ticket price and other key features of this recently launched world-class public transport service in Karachi.
