Timings of Passport Offices in Rawalpindi
The passport offices in Rawalpindi do not operate on public holidays and weekends [including Saturdays and Sundays], while Friday is a half-day. However, the offices remain open as usual on business days. If you want to apply for a passport, you can pay them a visit at the below-mentioned timings:

Guidelines for Applying For a New Passport in Rawalpindi
As per the Directorate General of Immigration and Passport, “Every Citizen of Pakistan is entitled to Machine Readable Passport for travelling abroad, subject to completion of all codal formalities.”
However, there are certain conditions for ordinary citizens and a few exemptions for government employees & their families, and personnel of armed forces & their families. If you [or your family members] are applying for a passport in Rawalpindi, you must know which office to go to and the procedures you will go through. Let’s begin:
- If you have never applied for a passport before, you must go to the Regional Passport Office in Rawalpindi.

As stated in the Passport Act 1974, there are three types of passports in Pakistan, including Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Official Passport. Now, let’s take a look at the documentation and passport application process in Pakistan.
Required Documents for Passport Application
Here are the details of the required documents, if you want to apply for a Pakistani passport in Rawalpindi:
For Adults
If you are an individual of 18 years or above, you have to show up at the office with the below-mentioned documents:
- 2 photocopies of CNIC or NICOP
- A No-Objection Certificate (NOC) [if you are a government employee]
- Bank receipt of the fee deposit
- Foreign passport and its photocopy in case of dual nationality
- Original CNIC or NICOP
For Minors
For people under the age of 18, the required documents for passport application in Pakistan are listed below:
- 2 photocopies of birth certificate from NADRA
- 2 photocopies of parents’ CNICs
- Bank receipt of the fee deposit
- Original and photocopy of foreign passport [for dual citizens]
- A Computerised Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA
For Passport Renewal
If you want to renew your existing passport, the documents required for the procedure are:
- Bank receipt of the renewal fee deposit
- Old Passport and its photocopy
- Original CNIC (for adults)
- Original CRC (for minors)
Step-by-Step Guide for Passport Application in Rawalpindi
As stated above, there are three types of passports in Pakistan, including Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Official Passport. However, the general process for application is mentioned below:
- Step 1: Visit the National Bank Counter and submit the passport fee. Make sure to receive the proof of submission. Afterwards, stopover the Customer Service Counter, and get an application form for a Pakistani passport. Fill the form before moving to the second step.
Note: Make sure to carry a pen with yourself. Also, remember that the units at regional passport offices are divided as per localities. So, you will have to visit the district window you are living in as per your CNIC.
- Step 2: Once you have located your district window, the actual process for passport application starts from here. An officer will capture a photograph and issue a unique token number.
Note: Keep your token always with you and wait for your turn patiently. All passport offices in Rawalpindi have waiting areas. Wherever your token number shows up, move on to the respective counter.
- Step 3: You will now be asked to submit your fingerprints at the counter. This will help the officer to acquire your available data in NADRA.
- Step 4: You will be called to enter or cross-check your bio-data into the system, including your full name, date of birth, address, profession, etc.
Note: It is recommended to double-check all the spellings of your name, address, and other data entered into the system. If there are any errors, get it corrected by the officer to avoid any inconvenience later when applying for a visa. Individuals applying for immigration and student visas are advised to cross-check the spellings as per official documents such as mark sheets, CNIC, etc.
- Step 5: The officer will cross-check all the details with the existing records in the Exit Control List (ECL) and Black List (BL).
- Step 6: If you have cleared the above-mentioned step, the Assistant Director of the Regional Passport Office will call you for the final interview. Afterwards, the director will issue a receipt with the passport tracking number for your application and delivery date.
Note: They will ask a few general questions, so do not panic or prepare for this interview in advance.
Procedure for Passport Collection
Once you have completed the passport application process. You will be required to wait for the procedure to complete, which can take up to 15 days. During your interview with the Assistant Director of the Regional Passport Office, you will be issued a receipt with the passport tracking number and delivery date for the passport. You will be required to collect your passport from the same location.
That being said, here’re are the essential steps involved in passport collection:
- Step 1: Visit the passport office and show up at the Passport Collection Counter. Make sure you have arrived at the given date, along with the receipt you received from the assistant director.
- Step 2: Show your details to the officer attending the counter and collect your passport.
Note: If you want to avoid the hassle of visiting the passport office, you can request for your passport to be delivered at your doorstep. However, you need to clarify it during the application process, and you will be charged extra for this additional service.
