The incumbent government is taking multiple steps to boost tourism in Pakistan. The most recent one is the Safari Tourist Train that has been launched by Pakistan Railways, specifically for the Potohar region of Pakistan.
The launch of this new train will give a chance to the travellers to explore the cultural heritage of Pakistan as well as many historic places and between Golra and Attock Khurd railway stations. This initiative will also increase tourism in this particular area where tourists will be able to look at the spectacular views of Margalla Hills and visit Sangjani Tunnel and many other places.
About Safari Tourist Train
The newly launched train will only run for three days a week i.e. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Safari Tourist Train will start its journey from Islamabad’s Golra station and pass through Taxila, Hassanabdal and Attock railway stations. The journey, between mountains and full of scenic views, will end at Attock City Railway Station.
During this journey, the tourists will be able to see magnificent sceneries of Margalla Hills, Sangjani Tunnel and some renowned bridges including Chablal Bridge, Haro Bridge, Ghazi Barotha and Attock Khurd bridges. The train will also pass through a marvellous iron girder bridge, the significance of which is that it connects the two provinces, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
About Attock Khurd Railway Station
The last stop of Safari Tourist Train, Attock Khurd Railway Station is absolutely one of the best historical preservations that the tourists will be able to see. Constructed in 1880, Attock Khurd Railway station has a Victorian structure made of stone masonry and is surrounded by Manglot Mountains.
The railway station is located close to the famous old iron girder bridge that was constructed in 1883. The upper part of the bridge was used for railway traffic and the lower part was used for road traffic. But later a new bridge was constructed on the G.T. Road and traffic was diverted. The bridge is also one of the most important strategic crossings on the Indus River between Punjab and KP provinces.

Tourism In Pakistan
In the past few years, both public and private sectors have taken various measures to revive tourism in Pakistan. The present government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, in particular, has been passionate about the promotion of tourism, as it would help portray the country’s soft image and would also help generate revenue.
Pakistan is home to some of the world’s most famous mountains, including K2 and Nanga Parbat—a feature that attracts mountaineers and tourists from across the world. But there’s a lot more to tourism in Pakistan than mountains and glaciers. Tourists, both local and international, are intrigued by the beauty, rich culture, heritage and traditions that different areas of Pakistan have to offer—from north to south and east to west.
Quite recently, Pakistan ranked first on the list of 20 best destinations. Other than that it has also been ranked among the top 10 places to visit by Forbes, an international publication. For the development and promotion of tourism in the country, there’s a dedicated department called the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).
