The New Year brings along brand-new determinations, plans, and opportunities for learning. If there’s one thing that’s old about every New Year is that people from around the globe make resolutions for the things they couldn’t achieve during the past year, and include new benchmarks to set during the next. While it’s perfectly alright to make promises with ourselves for personal benefits and success, let’s break the norm this year and aim for greatness as a nation. It’s time for us to join hands and make a few simple New Year resolutions for a better Pakistan!
Some Effective and Super-Easy-to-Adopt New Year Resolutions For a Better Pakistan
As we bid farewell to 2019, some of us might have a few regrets about the milestones we couldn’t achieve personally. But, what about the opportunities we missed out on as a nation? The despair of missing out on bettering Pakistan mandates us to welcome 2020 with vigorous energy, strong determination, and sturdy hopes of achieving what we couldn’t last year. The celebrations of welcoming the New Year should include at least a few New Year resolutions for a better Pakistan.
- Clean Green Pakistan
- Make Pakistan Smoke-Free
- Volunteer Your Time
- Show Kindness, Compassion, and Courtesy
Clean Green Pakistan
Pakistan is our country, our homeland, and our identity. It is a gift passed down to us from our ancestors who faced life-threatening situations and gave up their comforts for a better tomorrow for us. Unfortunately, even after several decades of independence, Pakistan’s true growth is still hindered by pollution, trash, carelessness, and its future threatened by intense climatic changes. Plus, the increasing lack of green spaces in the country isn’t helping the situation. Since that time of the year is coming closer when we all look forward to new beginnings, commit ourselves to lose the last few kilos, and promise to give up on sugar and carbs, we pay no heed to the major problems like climatic changes which are a significant cause of health problems.
On 15th November 2019, the government of Pakistan launched a community service drive under the name of “Clean Green Pakistan”, which aims to build public spaces for drinking water, safe sanitation, waste management system, and tree plantation. Not so long ago, Pakistan pleasantly surprised the world by planting a billion trees, an initiative that was aptly named the Billion Tree Tsunami. And, this was just the beginning since the government is still determined to continue with this initiative to curb, if not eliminate, several environmental hazards from Pakistan – So, fellow countrymen, the forests, valleys, and the streets of this country need us and our help to ensure the sustainability of such projects and initiatives.
Now, the question is, “how can you play a positive role in such projects?” Well, it doesn’t have to be about donation always; you can be a part of this drive by volunteering your services and offering your time.
Make Pakistan Smoke-Free
Ever wondered how our personal choices can have a disastrous effect on the people around us? Well, in continuation with what we’ve detailed about the importance of Clean Green Pakistan, the second most crucial step in this regard is pledging to stop smoking in public areas. Nobody talks about it, but we all know that our fellow countrymen face a myriad of health problems due to air pollution caused by fossil fuel emissions, coupled with factories and manufacturing units disposing of their waste irresponsibly. Smoking just makes matters worse for everyone.
One of the best new year resolutions and to create a fresh start is to quit that bad habit your loved ones are always warning you about. We understand that it’s easier said than done, but let’s focus on hundreds of other people who have to breathe in the toxic air, which these drags of smoke are contributing to. Try to focus on the national benefit rather than the individual one.
Moreover, going smoke-free in public areas is a part of community service and one of the best ways to improve the lives of the people around us. The most awesome thing about stopping smoking in public areas is that it slowly eliminates the habit as it starts to fit in your schedule. It enables a great sense of control that provides a person with an enlightening experience that they can do anything if they want to. So, if you smoke publicly, add it to your New Year’s resolutions list for building a better Pakistan.
Volunteer Your Time
We understand that you can barely take time out for yourself, given the fact that work demands a lot from you, leaving you with less-than-adequate time for your family. We also understand that your work assignment is a priority, and you might not want to risk a chance. Of course, personal time, career, and safety are important, but lending a hand in needy situations to your countrymen can help us as a nation in the long run.
Let’s do something different in 2020 as a part of the New Year’s resolutions for a better Pakistan by paying more attention to the people around us. Let’s say, at bus stations, footpaths, queues, and grocery stores – offer as much help as you can. Check if someone is struggling to hold the bumper while fixing their car, or is there someone struggling to carry groceries? Offer a helping hand, bring a cart, and give a shoulder to release some burden.
Another part of creative new year resolutions is to give some part of your time to tasks that require volunteering. You can do so by visiting old homes, animal shelters, hospitals, and orphan houses. It doesn’t have to be about the financial donation, you can give them your time and show some concern and care. Also, help other volunteers in doing a few things.
Show Kindness, Gratitude, and Courtesy
A quite simple way of showing kindness, gratitude, and courtesy are using the three magic words “thank you”, “please”, and “sorry”. It doesn’t only show good manners and respect for other human beings; it also shows that the efforts of other people are always acknowledged, and there’s no harm in admitting your mistakes. So, let’s make the usage of three magical words a part of your New Year’s resolutions for a better Pakistan and show your countrymen some love, gratitude, and respect. Try to show that you’re grateful to someone who is serving you, or show appreciation towards the people you interact with occasionally or daily — from that cab driver to that security guard. An extraordinary thing related to the impact and power of these words is that it can be a game-changer in a few difficult situations since we never know when someone is feeling anxious, insecure, or having a horrible day. It is in the little things that we, as a nation, can succeed in achieving bigger aims.
