In a bid to boost the travel and tourism industry in Pakistan, the federal government is currently collaborating with almost all provincial governments to uplift the national infrastructure and establish state-of-the-art tourist resorts across the country to facilitate travellers. Tourism Expressway, which is a multi-million rupee project, is already in the works. The development of many new attractions along the coastline of Balochistan is also in the pipeline. Even a TV channel named ‘Discover Pakistan’ has been launched by the concerned authorities, which only airs programmes and documentaries related to tourism.
Pakistan is putting in some serious efforts and has recently introduced many groundbreaking initiatives to showcase its incredible tourism potential in front of the whole world. The development of New Balakot City is yet another game-changing step to promote the local travel industry. In this blog, we are going to give you all the latest updates on this upcoming tourist attraction, the construction work of which is expected to begin soon.
PM Imran Khan Directs KP Government to Develop New Balakot City
In a recent development, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has directed all concerned authorities to get done with the necessary planning and framework for the development of New Balakot City. The premier wants it to be a fully-fledged tourist resort, offering all modern-day facilities to tourists.
According to the PM, the work on this project will be carried out and funded with the help of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Only reputable investors and stakeholders of the tourism and hospitality sector will be involved in the development of the project. He also instructed the authorities not to include the irrigated land in the area in the upcoming tourism project.
As discussed, work on New Balakot City is yet to begin and we’ll update this blog as soon as there are any new developments, so make sure to keep checking back. In the meantime, let’s learn more about the existing town of Balakot and its surrounding natural landscape.
Balakot—a Town in Mansehra District, KPK
Located on the right bank of the very famous Kunhar River, the town of Balakot is the main municipality in Mansehra District, KPK. It is also one of the biggest tourism hubs facilitating travellers visiting different types of natural attractions up north.
Balakot is also in proximity to the world-famous Kaghan Valley, which is one of the country’s most beautiful tourism spots. Visitors in Balakot experience a humid subtropical climate, which means it is very pleasant during the summer season but extremely cold during winters.
The Kashmir Earthquake, which took place in 2005, was one of the most unfortunate events in the history of Balakot. It completely destroyed the town, causing widespread damage. Many people in the region lost their lives and properties. The entire town was completely rebuilt once the calamity was over. It took years for the local people to recover from the damage caused by the earthquake but they have reemerged as a stronger and more resilient community than ever before.
To welcome and entertain tourists from all over the world, Balakot has been dotted with many different places to hang out like restaurants, cafes, and roadside eateries, exhibiting the true charm of the local culture and culinary traditions. There are also hotels and other types of accommodations that are ideal for short stays.
Now that we have given you all the latest updates on the upcoming tourism project and important information about the existing town of Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it’s time for us to wrap up. If everything goes as planned, the tourism industry is expected to witness unprecedented growth within the next few years, which would obviously be driven by the government’s recently introduced initiatives.
