Buying and installing new kitchen countertops is not cheap by any means. If you are planning to upgrade your cooking space or are in the process of building your house, it is imperative to do your due diligence to figure out which material would be best suited for your countertops. This will also give you a fair idea of the countertop installation cost per square foot, so you can create your budget accordingly.
Of course, the countertop installation cost for each kitchen is going to be different. However, to make things a little easier for you, we have put together an in-depth guide discussing different types of popular countertop materials and their prices along with the cost of labour in Pakistan.
Before we begin, the standard width for kitchen countertops is between 24 to 27 inches. Moreover, marble and granite are considered two of the most popular countertop materials in Pakistan.
Without further ado, here is everything you need to know about the cost of installing a kitchen countertop.
Marble Countertops
Marble countertops have always been a favourite among interior designers and homeowners alike – and for a good reason. This naturally occurring stone is known for its elegance and sophistication, offering a crisp and clean pallet for your home. It boasts a cool and smooth surface adorned with a unique pattern that is distinctive to each stone. If you want to add a hint of luxury to your décor, you should consider installing marble countertops in your kitchen.
Though it’s a relatively expensive and heavy material, marble countertops can last for decades if treated with care. They also increase the value of your property.
On the flip side, marble is naturally porous and can be stained rather easily. However, you can protect its colour and texture for years by sealing the countertops with a penetrating stain-proof sealant.
Marble Kitchen Countertops Prices
Though marble is more expensive than laminate, concrete and other countertop materials, you can still find a few economical options in the markets. For example, some types of marble extracted from Pakistan are comparatively cheaper, making them ideal for replacing kitchen countertops on a budget.
Badal Grey: It is a budget-friendly yet durable variety of marble that is found in different shades of grey with white and black patterns. Badal Grey is extracted in Pakistan and is usually used in low-cost houses. You can buy a slab of Badal Grey for around PKR 200 per sq ft on average.
Sunny Grey and Sunny White: Much like Badal Grey, these types of marble are also very pocket-friendly. They are extracted locally, and as their name suggests, are available in grey and white colours. The average price of Sunny Grey slabs is around PKR 200 per sq ft while Sunny White slabs cost about PKR 300 sq ft.
Oceanic Grey: Though it is mostly used for flooring and wall panels, the Oceanic Grey marble is also used for countertops. It also falls under economical marbles, though it is more expensive than the ones mentioned above. This type of marble slab costs about PKR 250 per sq ft.
Boticina Cream: If you want to opt for a cream-coloured kitchen countertop, Boticina Cream marble may be your most economical option. This type of marble is also locally extracted in Pakistan and is widely used for kitchen and bathroom counters. The price of Boticina Cream marble slab is PKR 280 per sq ft.
Verona Marble: Also known as China Verona, this marble is available in various shades of beige. Though it is found in Pakistan, different qualities of this marble are also imported from China. Verona marble slabs are relatively pricey at PKR 450 per sq ft on average. However, you may find lower quality marble for much cheaper.
Ziarat White: This premium category marble boasts a beautiful white background with black patterns. The Ziarat White marble is used for kitchen countertop installation in luxury homes. You can find this high-quality marble within the price range of PKR 500 to 1200 per sq ft.
Marble Countertop Installation Cost
For standard projects, the marble countertop installation cost is between PKR 1500 and PKR 2500 per day in Pakistan. This includes countertop installation labour cost as well as the material used during the project (aside from the marble). The installation usually takes a single day.
Please note that these rates may vary depending on the shape and size of your countertops.
Granite Countertops
When it comes to installing stone countertops, the popularity of granite rivals that of marble. This naturally occurring stone is found in rich and beautiful colours, each piece with its distinct spots and patterns. It has a timeliness aura and does not show signs of general wear and tear rather easily. Granite is also heat resistant, which means installing it in the kitchen or placing a hot pan on it won’t damage the surface.
Granite is considered a premium construction material in high-end projects. It is also very durable, easy to maintain, and can last for several decades.
However, granite is also porous by nature. Therefore, it requires to be sealed properly to keep your countertops from absorbing spilt liquids and forming stains that are hard to remove.
Granite Kitchen Countertop Prices
The cost of installing granite in Pakistan is slightly high since the material is mostly imported from other countries. However, you can easily find cheaper versions of this stone in slightly lower quality for low-cost projects. Overall, the price of premium granite used in luxury houses is almost similar to that of high-quality marble.
Here are the most popular granite countertops materials used across Pakistan.
Jet Black Granite: This pure black granite is a rather budget-friendly choice for kitchen countertops. It has a few white crystals and is available in both local and imported varieties. This type of granite occurs naturally. You can buy jet black granite slabs for the average price of PKR 400 per sq ft.
Snow White Granite: As the name suggests, this type of granite is available in pure white colours. However, it is a synthetic granite that is widely used for countertops across the country. The average price of Snow White granite is about PKR 570 per sq ft.
Baltic Red and Baltic Brown: Baltic Red and brown granites belong to the same family. They are imported from India as well as European countries and are mostly used for stairs and countertops in luxury homes. The Baltic Red granite features red spots surrounded by grey or black outlines, whereas Baltic Brown granite has dark brown spots with black outlines. You can purchase Baltic red granite for around PKR 680 per sq ft, while Baltic brown granite costs PKR 580 per sq ft on average.
Silver Pearl: Silver Pearl granite is relatively expensive and is mostly used for kitchen countertops. It is available in greyish blue hues with silver crystals. The cost of Silver Pearl granite slabs is PKR 1000 per sq ft on average.
Pearl Grey Granite: Silver Pearl and Pearl Grey granites are pretty similar in their appearance. The only difference between the two is that pearl grey granite does not have bluish hues. You can find pearl grey granite slabs for about PKR 1100 per sq ft.
Granite Countertop Installation Cost
The granite installation cost for kitchen is similar to the cost of installing marble.
You can install granite countertops in your kitchen within the price range of PKR 1500 and PKR 2500 per day for labour. For regular kitchens, the installation only takes a day. Also, this rate includes both the countertop installation labour cost as well as the adhesives and the material required for grouting.
Moreover, as mentioned above, these prices may vary slightly depending on the shape and size of your kitchen countertops. Since we have only listed average rates, you can probably find both cheaper and more expensive varieties of the same stone in the market.
