Update (May 3, 2021): With the constant efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb crime in the city, the ranking of Karachi on the World Crime Index has improved again. Now counted among the safest metropolises in Pakistan, Karachi has beaten many cities in developed countries, as its safety index now stands at 46.31 and crime index at 53.69, improving by 24 places, overall, on the World Crime Index since mid-2019. As of now, the city ranks at 95 on the list.

However, to increase the effectiveness of the surveillance system, the plan of the authorities is to replace the current CCTV cameras with around 10,000 new hi-tech surveillance cameras for better identification of the suspects, which is expected to further improve the security situation in Karachi.
