Essential Supplies and Tools Needed to Install Window Blinds
Installing window blinds on your own is a pretty straightforward process, provided you are well-aware of the technicalities. Measuring the dimensions, attaching the brackets, and placing the rails are a few challenging parts of the installation process. But, fret not! We have you covered with our step-by-step guide on how to install window blinds. Here’re the essential tools and equipment that are required to get the task done:
- Drill machine
- Ladder
- Scissors
- Screws
- Measuring tape
- Saw
- Pencil
- Window Blinds
Four-Step Guide to Install Window Blinds
Make sure you have measured the windows with a measuring tape before you hit the market to buy the blinds. Window blinds can be installed on either inside or outside of the frame. Mounting the blinds outside can make your windows appear larger while inside can make them look slimmer and allow more light to shine through the blinds.
Once you have taken all the necessary measurements and gathered all the material and tools, here’s what you need to do to install horizontal blinds:
- Step 1: Marking for Installation
- Step 2: Bracket installation
- Step 3: Securing Valence
- Step 4: Wand Attachment
Step 1: Marking for Installation
The first step in window blinds installation involves some markings with a pencil, so you know where to drill the brackets. Use a ladder if the windows are placed far away from your reach and be careful.
If you want to place the blinds inside the window frame, place the headrail inside the frame and make a pencil mark right above where the frame and headrail meet. Make sure that you mark at least ¼ inches on both the right and left sides of the headrail.
To mount the blinds outside the frame, you need to place the blind rail above the window case and repeat the same steps for marking.
Step 2: Bracket installation
The next step involves the bracket installation. All you need is to hold the brackets where you have made the markings and open them [if they are closed]. Most brackets have two open sides – one in the front while the other facing the centre of the window. Now, drill the screws inside the brackets to secure them.
Step 3: Securing Valance
In the third step of easy ways to install blinds for windows, you will have to secure the headrail by snapping the valance clips. It will help keep the blinds secured with the valance. Make sure you have completed this step before mounting the blinds inside the brackets. Now, place the headrail into the brackets and close the bracket doors. At this point, you should hear a clear snapping sound. Next, place the valence along the headrail and secure them with clips by pressing them gently.
Step 4: Wand Attachment
You will now have to secure the blind wand. Just push the plastic sleeve on the blinds and hook up the rod by inserting the wand’s end into the hook. Slide the plastic covering back down. The wand is now secured.
Adjusting Window Blinds to the Required Length
Adjusting the blinds to the appropriate length is quite easy. Just follow the instructions mentioned below to the t. Here’s what you need to do:
- Drop the blinds as far as they can go. Mark the blind that suits the required length.
- Get rid of the plastic retaining tabs that are placed at the bottom.
- Now take out the larger bottom piece.
- Keep removing the excess slats until you reach the desired length.
- Cut the excess blind strings to the proper length.
- Once you have achieved the desired length, just replace the bottom piece.
