K2 – The Highest Mountain Peak In Pakistan
Standing at a height of 8,611 metres (around 28,251 ft) above sea level, K2 is the highest mountain in Pakistan and the second-highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). The snow-covered peak of K2 overlooks the area surrounding the China–Pakistan border in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of the northern areas, and the Xinjiang region of southwestern China, which is also the highest point of the Karakoram mountain range.
The name “K2” was derived from a scientific notation used for the Great Trigonometrical Survey, which was a survey conducted for a detailed mapping of the subcontinent. Another name for K2 is Chogori. It is a local language term formed by the merger of two Balti words that are chhogo, which means “big“, and ri, which means “mountain“.
The first success ascend to the summit of K2 was made in 1954 by Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni two expert Italian mountaineers. As per the climbing records, the number of climbers who successfully made it to the summit point of K2 is less than 500 as it is one of the world’s toughest hikes.
If you are fond of trekking to the K2 base camp, you can avail the services of many reputable Pakistani tourism agencies. A K2 base camp trek package offers a variety of features and facilities. The package usually includes

Broad Peak
Located about 8 kilometres from K2, Broad Peak is also one of the highest mountain peaks in Pakistan. It is also a part of the Karakoram mountain range. Now you may be wondering why it is called “Broad Peak”. Well, it’s because the mountain has a summit that incredibly stretches over 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi). It’s the 12th highest mountain in the world and was originally called “K3”. The other four peaks of this mountain include Rocky Summit (8028 metres), Broad Peak Central (8011 metres), Broad Peak North (7490 metres), and Kharut Kangri (6942 metres).
The peak was first ascended by an Austrian expedition group in 1957. The members of this group include Fritz Wintersteller, Kurt Diemberger, Hermann Buhl and Marcus Schmuck. Different types of base camp trek packages that are offered for K2, usually cover expeditions to Broad Peak as well due to its proximity.

Tirich Mir
Tirich Mir rises 7,707 meters above sea level. It is one of the highest mountain peaks in Pakistan and is the highest elevation in the Hindukush mountain range. The mountain of Tirich Mir is located in the region of Chitral, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. A Norwegian expedition team was lucky enough to scale the peak of this mighty mountain for the very first time in 1950. The incredible views of Tirich Mir overlook Chitral’s main market. Tirich Mir gets its unique name from a local village known as Tirich in proximity to which the peak is located.
The nearby Chitrali village is inhabited by Khowar speaking people who are very hospitable and are fond of welcoming tourists in a heartwarming way. With narrow roads and extremely uneven trekking paths, the route to Tirich Mir can be very risky. The crevasses found at different spots on the trek path of Tirch Mir are very deep and dangerous. Trekking this mountain is a big challenge even for extreme adventure lovers, which allows them to put their skills, passion and dexterity to test. Furthermore, it takes a lot of courage and tactics to cross the Tirich glacier, which you need to necessarily cross if you intend to climb the mountain of Tirich Mir.

The peak is at a distance of just a few kilometres from Tirich Mir, which is the highest elevation in the Hindukush, near Tirich Glacier. Since Istor-o-Nal is located behind Tirich Mir, it mostly remains hidden from many viewpoints, which is why it is widely unknown. The name “Istoro Nal” means horseshoe in Khowar, a local language spoken in the region of Chitral. However, there are no records related to the origin of this name.
The first ascent to the highest peak of Istor-o-Nal was made on June 8, 1955, by the American mountaineers named Joseph E. Murphy, Jr., and Thomas A. Mutch as a part of an expedition arranged by Princeton Mountaineering Club. The Istor-o-Nal expedition is offered by many reputable travel agencies in Pakistan, which include the following services.
