Founded in 2002, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is an autonomous, self-governing institution that oversees the primary funding, regulation, and accreditation of the higher education system and institutions in Pakistan. Initially, it was recognised as the University Grants Commission (UGC), but the name was later changed to the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. The decision was made right after the announcement of the Higher Education Commission Ordinance in 2002.

- Step 1: Open your web browser and type or copy the address given below.

- Step 2: Once you have landed on the official website of the HEC, navigate to the Options bar at the top corner of the website.
Pro Tip: It is recommended to access the website from a desktop or laptop for a better user-interface.
Step 3: Select the option of ‘Universities’ [as shown in the image below] from the Options bar, and you will see a dropdown menu.

- Step 4: You will notice that there are several options in the dropdown menu. If you want to locate HEC universities in Pakistan, click on the ‘Recognised Universities’ option from the menu. You will be directed to a new page, as shown in the image below.

Step 5: On the next page, you will see a list of HEC Recognised Universities and degree-awarding institutions in Pakistan. For your desired region, you will have to filter the list by selecting the appropriate options.
Note: The list will start to filter as soon as you add one filter. You can add a single filter or use multiple filters as per your requirement.
- Step 6: Add sector, whether your university is private or public. If you want both, leave this option on the default selection.
- Step 7: Select the respective government from ‘Chartered By’ option. Let’s say your university is governed by the provincial government and it is located in Karachi. You will have to select the Government of Sindh option from the dropdown menu.
- Step 8: If you want to filter the list by faculty, just choose the discipline or your field of study such as arts, engineering, business, etc.
- Step 9: You can even filter the list by entering your desired location, including the province and the city within the province.
