Lahore is known for its red-brick structures. It’s a remnant of colonialism, however, many associate them with a resilient structure of high quality. It comes naturally then that red-brick educational institutions are viewed as impairing high quality as well. Government College (GC) is one such institution.
GC was opened in 1864 by the British government and had professors from the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Dublin, and Durham. While this started off as a college, in 2002 it was expanded to become a university with degree programs being offered at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. Over the years, GC has produced some of the most prominent leaders of Pakistan, including the Nobel Laureate Dr. Abdus Salam, who has been recognized for their contributions across the world.
