One of the fundamental needs of humans is housing and with the existing demand and supply gap of residential units in the country, the prices have further increased. This price hike has made it extremely difficult for a common man to own a house or an apartment unit, especially in the mega metropolises of the country. Among other initiatives of the federal government to provide relief to the common man and federal employees, Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) was launched with the purpose of allocating a quota for government employees in newly introduced residential schemes in all major cities.
Let’s take a deeper look into when and how the authority was formed and how government employees can avail its services.
Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA)
Before achieving the status of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, the authority was recognized as the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF). It was established as a cell in the Ministry of Housing & Works in 1989 as a guaranteed limited company. Through an ordinance promulgated by the president, the foundation gained the status of authority in 2019.
Since then, FGEHA has been assigned the duties of initiating, launching, sponsoring and implementing residential schemes for federal government employees on ownership bases. These schemes are launched in all major cities of Pakistan where the government employees are allocated.
From a broader perspective, the authority is also helping the government in reducing the number of unsheltered families in the country, especially among government employees. The authority assists the employees to have the ownership of a house at the time of retirement or before purely on the basis of merit.
Objectives Of FGEHA
Following are the key objectives of the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation:
