The Federal Board of Revenue, more commonly referred to as FBR, has recently launched a module for electronic hearing of tax audits and assessment cases in Pakistan, according to the reports published by the leading media outlets.
This means taxpayers will no longer be required to attend physical hearings anymore as all such proceedings will be carried out through the e-hearing module with effect from July 1, 2021.
“The FBR has launched the software of electronic hearing of tax audit and assessment cases to facilitate the taxpayers,” the tax collecting authority stated in a press release. “This has been done by enabling and functionalising the e-hearing module in FBR’s Iris portal.”
Iris is the official FBR portal that allows individuals and businesses to register with the authority in Pakistan as well as enables them to file their income tax returns online. The latest e-hearing initiative will not only facilitate the taxpayers but also allow the concerned authorities to meet their targets efficiently. Moreover, the new module will reportedly record and archive the electronic hearing of tax audits and assessment cases for future administrative and legal purposes. The FBR will establish dedicated hearing rooms in field offices and from the residence of taxpayers.
It is also worth mentioning the head office will be able to join any electronic hearing of tax audits and assessment cases at any field formation, at any time, without any prior notice.
Phases of the E-Hearing Module Launch
The launch of the Federal Board of Revenue’s electronic hearing module will consist of two phases.
In the first phase, the online hearing module has been introduced at four premises: Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Islamabad, Regional Tax Office (RTO) Rawalpindi, RTO Peshawar and RTO Faisalabad. In the second phase, this new e-facility will become operational in all other field formations as well.
As per the press release issued by the tax collection authority, all the Inland Revenue chief commissioners have been directed to establish the e-hearing rooms in their respective field offices by May 31, 2021.
From July 1 onwards, taxpayers won’t be required to visit the FBR offices for physical hearings, as they will be phased out completely.
