DIY storage ideas
You just need a weekend or two to turn your bathroom from boring to beautiful. Explore every nook and cranny of your bathroom and see how you can bring about small changes that will pull the room together.
Transform your bathroom into a spacious spa by keeping everything neatly organized in its place. If you are smart enough, it won’t cost you a dime but it will surely revamp your bathroom space.
Even if you use a number of shampoos, soaps and personal care items, you don’t necessarily have to stow them away in your vanity set. You can display the toiletries in a way that they add up to your bathroom décor. How about using an old rustic ladder for this particular purpose. Place your folded towels, scented candles, bath salts, potted plants, shampoos, soaps and loofahs on different rungs of the ladder.
To give a more stylish look to your bathroom, you can use a set of wicker baskets to place folded towels and other beauty-related products on display on the countertop near your sink. You can also create holders for your hair dryer accessories. A metal holder attached to the wall can act as the perfect hairdryer holder. You can also use a DIY hairdryer holder made from leftover PVC pipe. You will need a 3 inch diameter PVC Wye Fitting and some spray paints. The PVC fitting pipe has two ends – one is a bit narrower where you can place the hairdryer wire and the main larger hole should be used to place the main hairdryer.
Spray paint the PVC pipe using your desired spray paint colour and you are done. You can add fun stickers to it if you like.
Changing the light fixtures
A simple task of changing your light fixtures can do wonders. Go for a stylish sconce, a pendant-style or add a new fixture in a dim place to illuminate it. How about placing a light near the ladder where you have stocked up your beauty care essentials. This way you can easily spot the things you need when taking a refreshing bath!
Paint the vanity set
Do you have an old dresser that you no longer use? How about painting it and using it as your vanity set. This will not only give you plenty of space to store your shampoos, soaps and body lotions but it will also add a bit of glam to your otherwise boring bathroom.
Try using bold colours for your vanity set to give a totally new look to your drab surroundings.
Plant area
Keep a dedicated plant area where you can place different indoor plants in your bathroom. From succulent aloe vera to snake plant, you can add a refreshing feel to your bathroom. Some of these indoor plants have huge benefits, especially for damp places like bathrooms. They can provide fresh supply of oxygen and filter out harmful pollutants from the air.
Repurposed shelf
If your house has recently been constructed, you might have some leftover wooden tiles. This scrap wood project will take your bathroom decor up a notch. Place the wooden tiles on the wall and, using upside down brackets, install them in the wall. You can place your less frequently used items like bath salt, fizzy bath bombs and deodorants on the wooden shelf. A set of folded towels and scented candles will transform your bathroom into a spacious spa.
Toothbrush holder
Buy some wooden carved animals. Use funky colours to paint them. Drill some holes in the centre to place your tooth brushes in it. This acts not only as a toothbrush holder but also as a decorative piece. You can stick some crystals to make your wooden elephant ‘bejeweled.’
DIY bath rug
One of the low-budget ideas to renovate your bathroom is to make a rug on your own. We have covered a detailed blog on how to make your own DIY rug at home. You can create a bathroom rug using colourful rope. Stick them together with glue in a circular motion and you have a beautiful DIY rug ready. Place it just outside the bathroom where you can place your wet feet before walking into the room.
Add mirrors
Just a simple upgrade of adding mirrors can make your small bathroom look bigger. The look of the bathroom completely changes when you add mirrors to it. Place a large mirror across the window to allow light to enter your room. If you don’t have enough space to add a large mirror, then place smaller mirrors artistically in the bathroom to create an illusion of space.
Use a wallpaper
How about adding a colourful wallpaper behind the sink? Remember, bathrooms are damp areas so if you plan on sticking a wallpaper, make sure you are using a good quality adhesive to keep the wallpaper sticking. Adding a floral wallpaper will transform the bathroom in an instant.
Change the hardware
Want to give a royal touch to your simple bathroom? Change the hardware of your vanity set, cabinets and drawers in the bathroom. Use stylish, golden hardware on a deep purple vanity set to let the colours speak for themselves. There are plenty of hardware options that you can explore. Use them accordingly in your bathroom and see the magic unfold before your eyes.
