The Chinese Ministry of Education is successfully running a non-profit organisation known as the China Scholarship Council (CSC). This non-profit administrative body of the Chinese government provides scholarships to both national and international students. As per HEC’s official website, the Chinese government is sponsoring different types of degree programmes. Students from Pakistan can undertake Bachelor’s, Master’s & Ph.D. programmes in their chosen discipline. Specialisation in Chinese language and academic research is also offered in these sponsored degree programmes.
Eligibility Criteria for CSC Scholarship
Basic requirements for Pakistani students to enroll in a CSC scholarship programme has been listed in the form of pointers below:
- A CSC scholarship applicant must hold the nationality of Pakistan
- He/She must have completed 12 years of schooling (FA/ Fsc or equivalent A-level)
- For an undergraduate programme, the applicant must be under the age of 25 years
- To be eligible to enroll in a Master’s programme, the candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree holder. He/She should be under the age of 35 years
- The applicant must be a master’s degree holder and under the age of 40 to enroll in Ph.D. programs. The deadline for Chinese scholarships may vary each year.
How to Apply for CSC Scholarship Online
Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to apply for the CSC Scholarship Programme online.
- First of all, register yourself on the HEC website to get started with the CSC Scholarship application process.
- If you have an account, simply submit the online application form available at the HEC official e-portal.
- If you haven’t made your account at the HEC website yet, simply navigate to the HEC registration portal. Fill in your necessary personal and academic information as per the given mandatory fields.
- Once you have made and filled up the application form, get it printed and retain its copy.
- The next step is to apply at the Chinese web portal for pre-admission requests at one of your desired universities in China. This is mandatory to get your seat reserved. You can also visit the Campus China website for the purpose.
- Here are detailed instructions about applying procedures for the Chinese Government programmes. Read all of them carefully and then fill the online application form.
- The fee charged by HEC for the Chinese Government Scholarship programme registration is. PKR 300/- in favour of HEC. You can easily transfer the given amount online to their bank account with Inter Bank Funds Transfer (IBFT) or any HBL branch across Pakistan. Habib Bank Limited (HBL) H-9 Branch Islamabad and account number: 17427900133401.
- These are the bank branch and account details you may need to transfer funds. In case, you’re using IBFT service, you can simply type “HBL” In the field of beneficiary name.
Documents Required for CSC Scholarship Application Process
As per HEC’s official website, the following documents are required for the CSC Scholarship application process.
- Photocopies of CNICs/Smart Card of the applicant and their guardians
- Photocopy of the applicant’s domicile certificate.
- Photocopy of the online application form you may have submitted to HEC
- All educational documents that are attested by HEC and Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) Pakistan.
- A printed copy of the Chinese online application form having the pre-admission request in your desired university.
- Pre-admission letter/application from Chinese Government Scholarship Universities (not a mandatory requirement)
- Language qualification certifications, for example, HSK certificates, IELTS or TOFEL report (not a mandatory requirement).
- A photocopy of a valid passport. If you don’t have it yet, here’s how to apply for a passport in Pakistan.
- Two original copies of recommendation letters by any of the recognised scholarly authorities. This requirement is only for students applying in Master’s & Ph.D. programmes.
- The two of your recent passport size photographs.
- You may also need to submit two copies of your statement of purpose as an applicant.
- Make sure your health and fitness is up to the required criteria to fetch the Health/Fitness certificate issued by the Chinese quarantine authority.
- The candidate must also take physical examinations to fulfil the requirements listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form before the deadline for Chinese scholarships.
Important Instructions for CSC Scholarship Applicants
Key things that can invalidate your registration have been listed as under:
- Incomplete or unattested records by certified physicians.
- Documents not having the official stamp of the concerned hospital are also considered invalid.
- Select an appropriate time to take a physical examination as its result may only be valid for 6 months.
- You should also submit a police clearance certificate fetched from the concerned police department.
- In the case of on-going employment, you have to fetch a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer, if you are shortlisted.
- Certified English Translations are required for documents that are not in English.
Chinese Visa Application Process for Pakistani Students

- Completely filled Visa Application Form. You can easily find and fill the Chinese visa application form online and submit it in the printed form to your nearest Gerry’s Visa Center.
- To download the online Chinese visa application you need to visit https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn, and to confirm your appointment for visa application submission you can visit https://avas.cs.mfa.gov.cn.
- Your original passport has at least six months of validity as well as blank visa pages. You may also require a photocopy of the passport’s data page.
- A recently-taken passport-size photograph of the CSC Scholarship applicant against a white background.
- Original admission letter along with its photocopy
- Original Visa Application Form JW201 to Study in China, which is a form generated by a particular university upon admission acceptance.
- The original JW201 Form should be returned to the applicant to acquire a foreign residence in China. This is a mandatory requirement for students who want to pursue higher education in China.
- Submit a photocopy of the notarised highest diploma by the concerned educational authorities. It also needs to be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.
- Character/clearance certificate issued by the local police and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

Details About Financial Coverage Offered in CSC Scholarships
Tuition funds will be provided to the host university by the Chinese authorities. They will cover administration costs and expenditures for students under CSC scholarships. Accommodation will be free. Students can stay in university dormitories during their academic programmes. Details regarding the financial assistance provided under the Chinese Government Scholarship Programme (CSC) are as follows:
- Stipend for Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500 per month (equivalent to PKR 60,119)
- Stipend for Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month (equivalent to PKR 72,142)
- Stipend for Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month (equivalent to PKR 84,166)
Note: Students who have successfully enrolled for CSC scholarships to study in China will bear all travel expenses. Also, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has no financial responsibility in these scholarship programmes offered by the Chinese government.
