So, without further ado, let’s get fit!
Things to Consider Before Setting a Home Gym in Pakistan
Owing to the current virus outbreak, traditional gyms and fitness centres around the country have been closed. Some of us are happy about it for obvious reasons, while others are anxious. At the end of the day, it all depends on how much you enjoyed your workout sessions at the gym.
At this point, if you have considered adding a gym in your house, you must be aware of a few things, including the basics of designing a home gym and how to overcome the space constraints. To assist you, we have compiled a list of things that you should consider before adding a gym to your house:
- Effect on the Resale Value of the House
- Flooring Options for Comfort
- The Best Equipment and Machines
- Room Adjustment and Space Constraints
Effect on the Resale Value of the House
If you are wondering whether or not a home gym can genuinely increase the market value of a property, then it’s best to begin by understanding some behind-the-scenes technicalities. As discussed in one of our previous posts on types of buyers in real estate, we had mentioned that there are all sorts of buyers in the property market, and each of them is attracted to specific features in a house.
As a homeowner, you should understand the fact that one size doesn’t fit all. As such, adding an amenity that’s perceived to be a luxury to your house does increase the desirability to a certain subset of buyers, primarily luxury buyers. They are the type of buyers who have several properties across the country and are willing to pay extra for extravagant features, such as gaming rooms, media rooms, gyms, and swimming pools.
In essence, if adding the gym for your personal need is your main goal, then these things shouldn’t matter to you. This investment would be in your health, and it is surely going to pay dividends in the long-run. Also, the best thing is that it is one of the few things in your life and property that you can actually control according to your needs.
Flooring Options for Comfort
The next factor on our list of things to consider for the best gym setup is flooring options. The floor of your gym area or room should be comfortable, convenient, and spacious to move around. According to experts, the most popular thickness for a home gym flooring is around 1 centimetre. Now, let’s move on to discuss the most popular flooring options for a gym.
We know for a fact that an exercise programme can be overwhelming and extremely tiring, especially if you are a newbie. Getting in shape and moving towards a healthy lifestyle means being ready to spend some money on installing the essentials that can help you for extended periods. That said, the most popular and best flooring options for the gym are rubber and foam.
We recommend that you get interlocking tiles of the material mentioned above. Interlocking tiles can easily be installed on any average floor. If you’re a little tight on the financial side, then you can opt for foam or rubber sheets. Just remember that you will have to go through the process of cutting and fixing if you do not hire a professional for installation.
Moving further, if you want to protect your flooring and make it last for a longer period, it is best to cover it with a carpet. Not to mention that it will also give an additional layer to your home gym and comfort to your feet.
Install the Best Equipment and Machines
The quality of the equipment and machines in a house gym is a protagonist in making the experience rich and enjoyable. So, go for powerful machines and high-quality equipment to make your workout sessions more satisfying and exceptional than an ordinary gym.
Ideally, this blog should be enough for you to understand the essentials basics, but if you need further help, you can talk to a fitness expert or a gym trainer for consultations on the subject. For that matter, we have compiled a list of gyms and fitness centres in the top three cities of Pakistan. You can take help from the links mentioned below and head over to the nearest one in your city:
Room Adjustment and Space Constraints
It is obvious that gym equipment and machinery require a lot of space, so you should be prepared to make huge adjustments around your house.
Firstly, randomly scattering gym equipment in different rooms is not going to work, but it will rather make your house look unorganised and messy. If you want to experience the real essence of working out, all of your equipment and machines should be placed together in a single room or area.
You should also keep in mind that you are not giving up essential corners [such as bedrooms or study rooms] to make some area for your fitness centre. Your comfort and other life activities are equally important.
No matter where you place your gym equipment and machines, just make sure that the rooms are not being used by your partner, children, or guests during your workout schedule. You need to play around quite strategically to meet your fitness requirements without being interrupted.
Now that you have a better understanding of every nook and cranny of adding a gym to your home, let’s take a look at some equipment and machines deemed necessary for a home gym.
Basic Equipment and Machine for Home Gym
A home gym is a great way to maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. For that matter, you can easily build a gym by yourself in any suitable corner of the house, such as the living room, common area, balcony, or any other spacious area in your house where you feel productive and at ease.

- Gym Weights
Cost of Building a Home Gym in Pakistan
Adding a dedicated space for fitness to your abode is something that shouldn’t be calculated as an expense since it is about your mental well-being and physical health – two of the most important things in life that don’t have a price tag on them. In fact, they are priceless.
However, good health can be achieved through physical exercises, which has proven to be beneficial for a person’s health. So, we have compiled the cost of building a home gym in Pakistan, which basically depends on two things: personal needs and budget. You can add as much equipment as you want and make it fancy or keep it super simple – there’s nothing stopping you. Further, the market is bustling with budget-friendly alternatives, and there are also lavish options with exorbitant price tags.
Considering all this, we will share the average cost of gym equipment and machines mentioned in the list above, while the decision about what to purchase is completely yours to make.
Treadmill
It is always a good idea to get a cardiovascular machine in your home gym that can help you remain productive and fit. We will recommend that you go for a treadmill since it is the first and most important machine in a house gym. It can help you achieve an energetic start. The average price of a manual treadmill in Pakistan is around PKR 15,000 to PKR 20,000.
However, we will also recommend that you go for the electrical one, as it can help you keep track of your hours, calories burnt, and your heart rate. The cost of an electrical treadmill in Pakistan can be estimated at PKR 50,000 to PKR 100,000.
Exercise Bike and Elliptical
The next item on our list of the cost of building a home gym in Pakistan is an exercise bike and elliptical. These two machines can be purchased separately, but experts recommend that you go for the one that offers a combination of both. It can help you save both money and space. Plus, the maintenance will be easier that way.
A multi-functional exercise bike that includes elliptical can be purchased for an average price of PKR 30,000 to PKR 45,000, depending on the company and add-ons such as a digital screen.
Rowing Machine
A rowing machine is mainly used for a full-body workout. It is an essential piece of exercise equipment that helps in toning and building muscles, increasing stamina, and speeding the weight loss process. As the name implies, the machine mimics the motion of rowing a boat in the water – it’s pretty fun if you think it that way. The average price of a rowing machine in Pakistan can be anywhere between PKR 35,000 to PKR 100,000, depending on the brand and functionality.
Weight Bench
A weight bench is a piece of gym equipment that looks more or less like a normal bench except that it is designed for weight training and has a padded seating area [without the back support sometimes]. This particular equipment needs to be paired with dumbbells and gym weights; otherwise, it is of no use. It is mostly used by individuals who are into muscle-building regimes. You can skip it if you are not into weight lifting.
Further, a weight bench is known as a bench press in the local lingo. A simple bench press in Pakistan can cost you around PKR 6,000 to PKR 10,000. If you need a multi-position bench press that can also be adjusted for chest, bicep, crunches, and weight lifting, you should keep an estimated budget of PKR 15,000 to PKR 20,000 in mind.
Gym Weights
If you have purchased a weight bench, you’ll need to pair it with gym weights. There are many types of gym weights, while dumbbells and barbells are the most popular and widely used ones.
To begin with, dumbbells are a type of gym weight used for muscle and weight training. They are usually purchased in pairs – one for each hand. They are also great for flexibility and weight loss if incorporated in yoga or aerobics. They are often used for joint-isolation exercises and are distinguished by their weight, ranging from 1 kg to 30 kg generally. A pair of 1-2 kg dumbbells can cost you around PKR 3,000 – the price can vary as per the weight, brand, and material. Just keep one thing in mind, the higher the weight, the higher the price gets.
Second, we have barbells, which are weight plates attached to an iron bar. Just like dumbbells, they are also distinguished by their weight, but they are usually purchased in pairs. They are generally available in a set of 10 plates [also known as discs]. The minimum price of dumbbell discs in Pakistan is PKR 12,000 to PKR 15,000.
