Cholistan is one of the largest deserts in Pakistan. It is a barren tract of land spanning over 16,000 square kilometres. Some prominent historical landmarks, which include places like Derawar Fort, Derawar Mosque and Noor Mahal, are found near the desert.

For instance, if you are a motorsport fan, then you can also attend the very exciting Cholistan Desert Rally 2023, which is going to be held this February. More About Cholistan Desert Rally 2023

The Cholistan Desert Rally is often known as the Cholistan Jeep Rally. However, don’t get distracted by the word “Jeep”, since it has nothing to do with the international vehicle brand. This motorsport event is neither sponsored by Jeep, nor the rally is specified for Jeep vehicles only. In fact, in Pakistan, people often use the word “Jeep” to denote off-road 4X4 vehicles and SUVs.

The event has been organised by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab for the past 18 years. More than 100 race drivers from all over the country participate in this event of desert racing in Pakistan. Derawar Fort, which is about 45 kilometres away from the racing track, serves as the camp office for the racing event. The racing track of the event is 500 kilometres long, running across the arid desert region. 

The annual desert rally in Pakistan usually takes place in the pre-spring season. This year Cholistan Jeep Rally will be held from Feb 6-12.  The schedule of the upcoming racing event in Punjab has been detailed in the table below:

History of the Cholistan Desert Rally 

Organised annually since 2005, this off-road racing event has been widely covered by many national and international electronic media houses. Female drivers also participated in the Cholistan Jeep Rally in 2014 and showed off their off-road racing skills. The authorities behind this event of desert racing in Pakistan have plans to upgrade it to international standards, inviting foreigners to attend the rally.

Let’s have a quick look at the list of winners of the Cholistan Jeep Rally in the last few years.

Once again, the title of the Cholistan Jeep Rally 2022 winner was claimed by Nadir Magsi. Besides, according to the above table, only Nadir Magsi (six times) and Shahibzada Sultan (twice) have remained the Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally winners since 2015. Well, it takes a great amount of effort, skills and experience to become the unbeaten champions of such a challenging racing event.
