The latest addition to the features of Smart City Project is the launch of the e-challan system in Islamabad which will allow the police to be better able to monitor and manage traffic as well as implement traffic laws in the city.
Islamabad Launches E-challan System in Islamabad For Better Policing
Prior to the launch of the e-challan system in Islamabad, a three-month-long campaign was initiated to familiarize the citizens and commuters about the functioning of the system. The system is launched to ensure that the traffic laws are followed even in the absence of traffic wardens on roads. The pre-launch campaign focused on sensitizing the commuters and making them aware of the consequences of traffic violations.
The e-challan system was inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and was also briefed by the Director-General (DG) of Safe City about the whole process of how violators will be issued tickets.
Traffic cameras were previously used for monitoring and surveillance purposes. As per Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to make technology more inclusive in government institutions to streamline processes, these cameras will now be used in implementing traffic rules and make sure that the violators are fined accordingly. The IGP said that it would be impossible for any violator to run away from the system because it will be directly connected to Safe City and Excise and Taxation offices.
How E-challan System in Islamabad Will Work
Using the features of the Smart City Project, the newly launched e-challan system will be able to generate tickets against the vehicle used to violate traffic rules. The Safe City Cameras are installed all over the city including highways to monitor traffic. On average, 14,000 to 18,000 violations of speed limits alone are recorded on highways. Through CCTV cameras installed at different points on the roads, traffic violations will be captured and an e-challan will be dispatched at the home address of the owner of the vehicle.
Traffic Violations & e-Tickets in Islamabad
Being a responsible citizen, it is imperative to abide by laws. Negligence in doing so can be a punishable offence or at the very least you may receive a ticket. Traffic violations, however small these may seem to some people, can also cause major incidents on a road and put the safety of yourself as well as others in jeopardy. Violations will be captured by the cameras which will alert the traffic police department in Islamabad and the excise and taxation department after which a challan will be generated with the registration number of the vehicle.
