About Board of Secondary Education, Karachi
The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, was established in 1950 by the promulgation of the Central Legislative Act No. XVI. The board was initially housed in the ground floor of a small house located in Fatima Jinnah Colony near Jamshed Road. The first exams under BSEK were held in 1951 for about 1,461 students. The board set its own curriculum in 1952.

BSEK Student Registration
Students need to obtain their enrollment and admit cards in order to appear for their secondary school examinations.
Registration for Regular Students
Regular students in Karachi are enrolled through their educational institutes. Students simply have to fill the forms and pay the enrolment fee to their school, which will then submit the documents and fee directly to the BSEK
The registration and enrolment of regular students are valid for a period of 3 years.
Registration for Private Students
Private candidates need to submit their duly filled Registration and Permission Form at the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, in order to appear for their ninth and tenth-grade examinations.
The admission process for both regular and private students in Karachi starts a few months before the announcement of annual examinations. The students and affiliated schools have to submit their forms, fees and required documents before the deadline to avoid paying late fees. After the submission process is completed, the BSEK issues enrollment cards and admit cards with roll numbers, which regular students can collect through their schools. Private students, on the other hand, may have to visit Matric Board Karachi in person to obtain their roll number and cards.
The BSEK enrolment fee for 2020 is PKR 700, including the form charges.
BSEK Scholarships
The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, offers financial assistance to deserving students on merit and need basis.
Merit Cash Awards
Matric Board Karachi awards Merit Cash Awards to students who fall into the following categories:
- Three top-scoring deaf candidates
- Top 100 science students
- Top 50 general students
This is how the cash is distributed among the students.
- PKR 50,000 are awarded to the students who got the First Position in all groups (Science group, General group and deaf student)
- PKR 30,000 are awarded to the students who got the Second Position in all groups (Science group, General group and deaf student)
- PKR 20,000 are awarded to the students who got the Third Position in all groups (Science group, General group and deaf student)
- PKR 5,000 are awarded to the students who got the Fourth Position and onwards
Poverty Cum Merit Scholarship
Under this program, BSEK awards a total of 300 scholarships to deserving students in Karachi. A total of 150 scholarships are reserved for girls and another 150 for boys.

BSEK Documents Correction
The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, also offers correction service to eradicate errors in board-issued certificates and documents:
For Spelling Mistake Correction
Students must submit the following documents to BSEK in order to correct any spelling mistakes in their own or father’s name.
- Photocopy of the school admission and withdrawal register. Must be attested by the principal
- A covering letter with the subject ‘Correction of Name’ issued by the school principal and addressed to the Secretary BSEK
- Original mark sheet or Certificate issued by the Karachi Matric Board
- Paid bank challan or a fee receipt
For Addition or Deletion in Name
Candidates can add or delete certain words from their own and/or father’s name. For example, family names like ‘Khan’ and ‘Syed’ can be added or removed to change the name partially.
Following documents will be required for this purpose:
- Two press cuttings of a ‘Change of Name’ advertisement published in any daily newspaper
- Covering letter with the subject ‘Correction of Name’ issued by the school principal and addressed to the Secretary BSEK
- Affidavit (in case of a covering letter is not available)
- Original marks sheet and certificate issued by the board
- Paid bank challan or a fee receipt
For Change of Name
If someone wants to entirely change their own and/or father’s name in the documents, they will be required to submit the following list of documents:
- Original Court Decree
- Covering letter with the subject ‘Correction of Name’ issued by the school principal and addressed to the Secretary BSEK
- Original marks sheet and certificate issued by the board
- Paid bank challan or a fee receipt
For Correction of Date of Birth
The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, can correct the Date of Birth of registered candidates if they are able to produce sufficient proof. School records of such students are also inspected before any decision is taken.
Here is a list of documents required for correction of date of birth.
- Photocopy of the admission and withdrawal register from primary, middle and high school. These must be attested by the respective principals
- Covering letter with the subject ‘Correction of Date of Birth’ issued by the school principal and addressed to the Secretary BSEK

For Change of Date of Birth
A student can request to change their Date of Birth as mentioned in board documents by fulfilling the following requirements:
- Original Court Decree
- Approval of the BSEK Secretary
- Covering letter with the subject ‘Change of Date of Birth’ issued by the school principal and addressed to the Secretary BSEK
- Original marks sheet and certificate issued by the board
- Paid bank challan or a fee receipt
BSEK Document Verification
Most universities, foreign institutes and employers ask candidates to submit verified copies of their Matric mark sheet and Secondary School Certificate.
How to Verify Secondary School Certificate in Karachi
Here is a step-by-step guide for Matric certificate verification form Karachi Board.
Step 1: Download the verification form from the official Board of Secondary Education, Karachi website.
Step 2: Visit BSEK between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM with the duly filled form, two copies of the mark sheet, a copy of your CNIC, and verification fee.
Step 3: Visit room number 22 at BSEK to get your application form signed, then submit the fee in room number 4. After paying the verification fee, submit all your documents and fee receipt in room number 22.
Step 4: Obtain a receipt after successful submission.
Step 5: Obtain a sealed envelope addressed to IBCC from room number 22 on the date mentioned on the receipt. Do not open it.
Step 6: Visit the IBCC Regional Office and submit the sealed envelope at their verification counter.

How to Verify Secondary School Mark Sheet in Karachi
Here is the verification process for SSC Mark Sheet, Provisional Certificate and Migration Certificate:
Step 1: Download the verification form from the official Board of Secondary Education, Karachi website.
Step 2: Visit BSEK with an extra photocopy of the document that needs to be verified, copy of your CNIC and verification fee
Step 3: Submit the verification fee and documents to obtain a receipt
Step 4: Visit the Matric board office on the mentioned date to receive your verified documents

BSEK Online Portal
Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, has also launched a digital platform that allows students to access their admit cards, enrolment slips and roll numbers online. The schools can also download the students’ admit cards through the BSEK online portal and print them instead of visiting the board office.
Only affiliated schools can register at the online portal.
BSEK Results
The results for ninth and matric can be accessed through the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, website. All you need to do is open the website, click on the ‘Result’ tab in the navigation bar and enter your roll number in the relevant field. Press ‘Submit’ to view your details.
Moreover, students can find out their total marks by sending an SMS comprising BSEK <space> Roll number at 8538.
