Being the focal point of every bedroom, your bed needs to not only be comfortable but also appropriately sized as per the room it is in. While selecting a bed, you should also consider the number of people sharing the bed. Considerations such as designing a shared bedroom for siblings or providing sleeping space for 1, 2, or 3 individuals will need to be kept in mind as you browse through the different types of beds in Pakistan to find the one that is perfect for your space and your needs.
We’ll cover all the possible options for buying a bed based on the various bed sizes and bed styles available.
Types of Bed in Pakistan
We can categorise the various styles of beds in Pakistan as follows:
- Single or Twin Beds
- King-Sized and Queen-Sized Double Beds
- Trundle Beds
- Bunk Beds
- Bunk Bed with a Trundle Bed
- L-Shaped Bunk Beds
- Loft Beds
- Folding Cots
- Murphy Beds
- Sofa Beds
- Storage Beds
Let’s cover each of these bed designs in Pakistan in detail below.
Single or Twin Beds
While the name makes it pretty clear that single beds are perfect for accommodating only one person, there are still several variations of single beds available in the market, based on the size of the bed. Single beds for kids will be the smallest options, with twin beds generally adding a few inches to the bed frame and being large enough to provide a comfortable sleep to your kids up to their teen years.
Just because they accommodate only one person does not make them any less feasible for a shared room. Factually speaking, if you want to avoid quarrels between roommates or siblings, single beds can be the best option. They give each individual the freedom to sleep, as they prefer, without kicking anyone else off the bed.
King-Sized and Queen-Sized Double Beds
Ideal for couples or older siblings, who get along great and are not bent on bringing the house down in a fight, double beds sleep two people. Similar to single beds, they can be of several types. In terms of size, firstly, we have the queen-sized beds that are the most commonly used double beds because their size makes them a perfect fit for almost all bedrooms. These are followed by the slightly larger king-sized beds, perfect for master bedrooms, but may not be ideal for other rooms.
Trundle Beds
If your room is small and you cannot accommodate two twin beds or single beds into it because that would eat away all the floor space in the room, we’d recommend that you consider a trundle bed. Higher than ordinary single beds, trundle beds hide a second bed on wheels under the first one and combine two beds into the same floor space once the bed is rolled back under the frame.
This bed is a popular space-saving bed design that is ideal for small bedrooms because of its lean built that allows it to fit snugly against a wall, providing plenty of floor space during the day while doubling as two beds at night for your kids.
Bunk Beds
Also known as double-decker beds, bunk beds are another space-saving bed design, in which two or more beds are built on top of one another as bunks, using a single frame for support, and a ladder or a staircase for climbing up and down. Using minimal floor space, bunk beds are available in several different styles and are perfect for adventurous kids who are sharing a room, as this gives each kid their own bed space and privacy on their level.
However, this bed style is only ideal for homes with high ceilings. Moreover, the use of ceiling fans is quite common in almost all parts of Pakistan, and a bed that raises close to a whirling fan can be a safety hazard.
Bunk Bed with a Trundle Bed
If you decide to opt for a bunk bed, you can go for the traditional bunk bed in which a twin bed is built atop another one with a ladder for ease of access. If you want space to accommodate three kids or two kids and a guest but do not have enough ceiling space for a third bunk, you can also consider a bunk bed with a trundle bed. This means that there will be two bed bunks, and one bed will pull out from under the bottom bunk on wheels, creating space for a third person.
L-Shaped Bunk Beds
Alternatively, get a custom-designed L-shaped bunk bed that can comfortably sleep 3 to 4 kids in a single frame. Rather than building a third and fourth level, this bed design will place two extra bunks in a right angle to the first two, in a sturdy frame. You can even add bookcases or shelves as a headboard for each bunk, giving each kid their own bedside storage space and a little privacy from their siblings on the same level. Loft Beds
Want to maximise the use of space in a small bedroom? Loft beds elevate a single bed to a height equal to the second level of an ordinary bunk bed, leaving the floor space at the bottom open for use as a study area, reading corner, or any other customisation you desire. Raising the bed like a loft gives you plenty of room in small square footages to create additional purpose-based spaces under the bed for your kids. You can even decorate it like your child’s personal fort, allowing them to let their creativity flow.
Folding Cots
One of the most basic types of beds in Pakistan is a folding cot. It is essentially a portable bed with a metal frame and a woven frame that not only provides excellent back support but is also a lifesaver if you need to accommodate a few extra guests overnight.
Murphy Beds
If you live in a studio apartment, Murphy beds should be your choice, because while they offer comfortable sleep at night, they fold seamlessly into the wall during the day, making your living area more spacious, and allowing ease of movement throughout the space. The frame of a Murphy bed is fitted into a wall with hinges that will enable it to be pulled down when you need to use the bed, but with its vertical storage option, it is perfect for studio apartments or small homes.
Sofa Beds
If you’re looking for multipurpose furniture, consider a sofa bed for your guest bedroom or living area. Used as a comfy couch during the day, the sofa converts into a bed when needed, giving you more space to accommodate overnight guests. Some sofa beds also have pillows stored in their frames. Sofa beds are available in single bed sizes, queen-sized, and king-sized beds, depending on the space you have available in your home.
Storage Beds
Another form of multipurpose furniture is the storage bed, which looks like an ordinary double bed but offers a lot of storage space underneath. There are several different designs available for storage beds. Some beds have pull-out drawers under them, while you can lift the mattress in others to store stuff underneath. This is one of the best budget-friendly ideas for decorating a small bedroom.
