Many people choose an all-white décor for their bathrooms but white is not the only colour that works well in a small space. Here are some of the best bathroom colour schemes to consider when you are revamping your bathroom.
Top Bathroom Colour Schemes for Home
Choosing a colour for your bathroom can be difficult because you want a paint shade that is soothing and relaxing, but will also look anything but boring. Moreover, you’ll need a shade that can easily be matched up with the fixtures and fittings that you either already have in place or will be getting from the market. Since sanitary fittings are generally available only in a few standard colours, there is always an option of incorporating white fittings after painting your bathroom with one of the following colours:
- Blue
- Green
- Brown
- Grey
- Pink
- Purple
- Black
- White
Let’s discuss each of these colour schemes for bathrooms below and discover how you can incorporate them into your bathroom.
Blue
Blue is one of the most popular colour schemes for bathrooms. It can also be contrasted with yellow for a cheery effect. Out of the several different hues of blue, you can choose a pale or sky blue shade as a backdrop for brighter colours or go for a sophisticated touch with dark or navy blues. Avoid extremely bright neon shades of blue, especially in a small bathroom, as the effect can be overwhelming rather than the calmness you’re seeking.
Powder blue is an extremely common colour for bathrooms, as it usually matches the shade of the sanitary fittings as well. You can even go for a two-toned effect, with a darker blue in the bottom half and a lighter shade on the top half of the walls and the ceilings to create visual appeal.
Green
Connect with nature and the earth with green tones in your bathroom. Rather than pastels, opt for darker hues like forest green, but if you want to keep it light, mint and pistachio are shades that are highly recommended. Too much green can be overwhelming though, so we recommended blending the dark and light shades with yellows and browns for a colourful contrast with a dominant green colour scheme.
Brown
The colour of coffee, chocolate, and the earth brings a wonderful contrast with a light beige shade for any bathroom. Brown bathroom colour schemes should never be monotone though. You should always contrast the dark with the light for a play on the different shades of brown since there are so many shades you can choose from. The best part is that you’ll also be able to find sanitary fittings matching both the dark and lighter shades of brown, which gives you the perfect set to add to your bathroom for a cohesive interior.
Grey
Aside from earthy tones like green and brown, grey is a neutral shade that may seem boring, but can truly highlight your space if it’s incorporated in the right way. Grey is a colour of sophistication and you do not need to use the lightest shade either. If you are accessorising the bathroom with colourful touches, grey walls can be the perfect backdrop. You could opt for dark grey, charcoal grey, or even a soothing light grey, based on how you plan to add more colours into the bathroom.
Pink
There was a time when pink bathrooms were considered the norm. Now, you’ll mostly find them at your elderly relative’s home, reflecting a time when the colour was commonly used in bathroom décor. Since they give off a vintage charm, most people avoid pink shades in the bathroom, but if you want to showcase a vintage interior style in the home, this is perfect for you. Pale pink is the most commonly used shade for bathrooms. If you want to mix it with the modern era, opt for pink walls, white fittings and dark floors and ceilings that will offset the paleness of the pink.
Purple
As a colour of royalty, purple is often recommended for luxurious interiors. Since purple has several different hues, including lavender, mauve, violet, and magenta, it can be difficult to come up with the perfect colour hue. One way to make this work is to use white sanitary fittings as a standard and to then colour the walls of the bathroom according to the shade of purple you love the best.
Paint colours can, sadly, be different in real life, from how they appear in a colour catalogue so you might have to get shades custom-made or opt for tiles that can add a purple touch without any colour variance upon application.
Black
Dark shades can often make a space look smaller but black bathrooms can be contrasted with white fixtures and floorings to bring a touch of light with the black walls. Don’t forget to brighten the space with several light fixtures that will illuminate the bathroom, even at night or on cloudy days. A blend of black and white is a classic and timeless choice for any bathroom, but avoid overcrowding the space to make the right impact.
White
You can never go wrong with the traditional all-white bathroom but if you want to paint your walls during a renovation, opt for an off-white shade that is white with just a hint of creaminess that will highlight the white fixtures that you already have in place.
Colours can work magic in any interior. You can even make your room look bigger than it is, with the right colours. However, with the amount of moisture that your walls will be exposed to in your bathroom, you will need to carefully select the right type of paint for your project.
