Considered as one of the safest areas in Karachi, Malir Cantt is situated alongside Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Jinnah International Airport. Before the Pakistan Army took over the area in 1947, the area was overseen by the British Army.
The population count of Malir Cantonment, according to the 2017 Census of Pakistan, is 139,052. Compared to other posh localities of Karachi, like Defence Housing Authority and Clifton, Cantt is a well-planned area. From training institutes to schools and colleges, Malir Cantt has a number of educational facilities. All of these places offer high-quality education to residents as well as people from nearby areas. Some of the most famous schools in the society are Fauji Foundation Model School, F. G. Public school, PAF Montessori, Foundation Public School, Army Public School, and C. B. Public School.
There are several universities situated not far from the area. There’s Karachi Institute of Medical Sciences, which operates under Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Baqai Medical University, and Iqra University Airport Campus.
Almost all of the hospitals in Cantt feature modern equipment to provide and ensure quality healthcare to patients. CMH is mostly visited by military families, but a lot of civilians avail its services as well. In addition, residents can also find Al-Khidmat Hospital, Dr Atiq Orthopaedic and Medical Centre, and Tasneem Memorial Hospital in the area.
You can shop from stores of popular local and international brands like J., Limelight, Chen One, Gul Ahmed, and Levi’s in Malir Cantonment. There are a few malls near Fatima Jinnah Park, which include Pak China Shopping Complex, Zam Zam Mall, and Askari Star Mall. Not only clothes, but you can also shop for accessories, houseware, jewellery, and tech at these places. Residents also have quick access to some superstores like CSD Supermarket, Imtiaz Supermarket, Family Mart, and Cantt Mart. Malir Cantonment has a lively food scene. Malir Cantonment is an upscale neighbourhood where residents, be it civilian or military families, get to enjoy a large number of facilities at their disposal. However, those considering to buy a flat here would do well to remember that property in this area is very expensive.
