Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) revealed that the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), back in November 2019, had decided to cancel the Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) conducted by the development authority for the construction of an underpass facility on Faisal Avenue that would connect sector G-7 and G-8, a news source reported.
Reportedly, the development work on the project has been stopped for the past two months and the EPA has yet to reinstate the No-Objection certificate (NOC) for the project. The CDA had commenced work on the PKR 395mn project back in October, with the CDA’s spokesperson stating that the government authority had been following the guidelines provided by the EPA and had planted about ten thousand trees for environment protection. He added that the two government departments were currently working on a solution and that hopefully the problem would be resolved soon.
There has been a growing concern within the CDA that it could face additional charges from the contractors of the project due to the closure of work. A CDA official additionally revealed that the authority had already completed the expansion of service roads around the project site where the traffic on Faisal Avenue could be diverted to, once project development is resumed.
